Church of Pope Clement

26 Pyatnitskaya Street, p. 1st

Description:

This temple, in its architecture, resembles the historical buildings of St. Petersburg, but is a decoration of the capital. Saint Clement, who was considered the first patron of Russia, in Moscow dedicated two churches - on Varvarka and on Pyatnitskaya.

The architectural style in which the temple is made is Baroque, a popular architectural style in Italy, as well as a typical characteristic of European culture of the XVII-XVIII centuries. On the site of the church of Clement in 1612 stood a wooden temple, which in 1636 was displaced by the Church of Signs with Nikolsky chapel. The church itself was rebuilt in 1770, at the expense of the merchant K.M. Matveev. To this day, unfortunately, the architect who performed such a large-scale work remains unknown - there are only speculations about who could have created this eighth wonder of the World.

Interestingly, at the same time in St. Petersburg there is a similar temple, also made in the Baroque style.

It is not difficult for St. Clement to get to the church: the nearest metro is Tretyakovskaya. You can get there by other public transport, reaching the stop "Big Ordynka". The temple itself is on the street. Friday, building 26, building 1. Orientation in the capital is not difficult, besides, the church is located near the metro.
