The Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker on the chips

Description:

Today, the belfry of the Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker on the Shchepy is considered one of the most sonorous and musical in the capital, and a few years ago this temple was destroyed beyond recognition. There was opened a plant for the production of badges and other similar paraphernalia. And during the Great Patriotic War, artillery shells were produced in the building. Accordingly, the domes, the upper part of the bell tower were literally barbarously destroyed and the church cemetery was destroyed.

This happened in the mid-30s of the last century, when the Soviet government once again began an active fight against religion.

The temple itself has a very rich history. It was built in 1649, when a modest wooden church was built here. The building immediately fell in love with parishioners, but a few years later it burned down in one of the many fires in Moscow.

Soon the temple was restored in stone. However, he was again prepared for a difficult fate - during the invasion of Napoleon's troops in 1812, the temple was looted. However, immediately after the retreat of the French, it was restored with public money.

Now the temple has been completely reconstructed and is used for its intended purpose.
