Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in Old Simonov
Russia, Moscow, Vostochnaya Street, 6
Description:
Founded in 1370, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin went from the cathedral temple of the great monastery to the parish church on the outskirts. Its history is inextricably linked with the life of Simonova Monastery - the town-planning symbol of Moscow, the house church of Dmitry Donskoy, the center of pilgrimage, praying and training of church hierarchs glorified as saints. The fates of the church and the monastery diverged after the revolution: the monastery was destroyed, and the temple managed to survive and become the first of the Moscow churches returned to the church.
The shrines of the restored church were the icon of the Mother of God written by St. Peter, the miraculous icons of Tikhvin, Iberian, Kazan and the image of Our Lady of Vlakherna carved from wood, as well as the icons of the founder of the monastery, St. Theodore Simonovsky, St. Patriarch Tikhon and St. Elizabeth Feodorovna. The interior of the temple is recreated on the basis of an old painting that survived under a layer of plaster.
On the territory there are several monuments: Peresvet and Oslyab, the chapels of Kirill Belozersky and Sergius of Radonezh.
The address of the temple is Moscow, East Street, 6 (Metro "Avtozavodskaya").
