Church of Simeon Stylus on the Cook

ooh Cook, 5, Moscow, Russia

Description:

The Church of Semion Stolpnik on Povarskaya Street is located in the center of the Russian capital, a six-minute walk from the Arbatskaya metro station.

The temple has a rich history. It was built in the 1670s by decree of Tsar Fyodor Alekseevich. It is designed in the style of Russian narrowness, which is characterized by intricate forms and picturesque silhouette.

At one time, the parishioner of the church was Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol. Among the Moscow intelligentsia, the temple was popular as a wedding place. For example, within its walls, Count Sheremetev and the serf actress Zhemchugova witnessed their union before God.

In Soviet times, the temple was in danger of disappearing.

The fact that it has survived to this day can be considered a miracle. After the collapse of the USSR, it was returned to the churches and put in order.
