Church of St. Nicholas in Zaiaitsky
Description:
The Church of St. Nicholas, in Zajaitsky, is an active temple located in the very center of Zamoskvorechye. The heavenly patron of the temple is Nicholas the Wonderworker. The temple has a rich and, like most churches, challenging history. The first mention of it refers to 1518, although the building was still wooden. The stone temple was built in 1652 and has been rebuilt many times since then. In 1932, the temple was closed and a transformer shop and electrical repair service were located in its building. In 1939, the temple was planned to be demolished, but, fortunately, limited only to the dismantling of the domes. Only in 1996 the temple became active again.
At present, in addition to divine services, the clergy of the temple conducts active social work. At the temple there is an active Sunday school, the youth movement "Lights of Orthodoxy", the purpose of which is the spiritual and patriotic education of children and youth.
Getting to the temple is not difficult. It is located at one stop from the Novokuznetskaya metro station (Sadovnicheskaya Street) at 2nd Raushsky Lane, 1-3/26, p.8.
