The Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Falconers
Sokolnaya Square, 6, Moscow 107113
Description:
The Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Sokolniki was built for 5 years, its consecration took place in 1913. The temple is an outstanding example of Russian modernity in church construction. This two-storey and nine-domed building, made in the shape of a cross, has an area of 960 square meters and a height of 34 meters.
Every detail of the church has a spiritual and symbolic meaning. For example, 9 domes are 9 angelic orders that serve before the throne of God. The peculiarity of this temple is that it faces south to the Holy Sepulchre, located in Jerusalem, while Orthodox churches have always been built with an altar to the east.
The main shrine of the temple is the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God, which is a copy of the Athos miraculous icon “Gatekeeper”. There are also great icons of the Mother of God Passionate, Bogolyubsky Mother of God (list), St. Panteleimon. At the Church of the Resurrection of Christ there is a Sunday school, a parish library, and its own newspaper is published.
