All Saints on Kulishki Church

Church of All Saints on Kulishki, Zaryadye, Ktai-gorod, Moscow.

Description:

The temple is located east of the historical center of the capital along the highway of the old way (Varvarka-Solyanka Street) near the Vasilievsky meadow, where the Yauza River flows into the Moscow River.

The first log chapel on this site was erected for the reign of Grand Duke Dmitry Ivanovich, later named Donskoy. It is believed that the construction of the temple is aimed at perpetuating the memory in honor of the victory over the Tatar-Mongol yoke, as well as the soldiers who died on the Kulikovo field in 1380. The temple was consecrated in honor of all saints, because all fallen heroes were named after their patron.

There is no more solemn fulfillment of the eternal memory of the fallen soldiers than the Temple of All Saints.

In 1975, the building was given to the Museum of the History of Moscow, with the subsequent restoration of this architectural monument in 1970-1982.

Fragments of the base of the initial temple together with the remains of burials were found during archaeological excavations in 1978-1979.

In 1991, the building was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church, and in 1994, in memory of those shot near the basement, a cross was erected with the display of new martyrs.

The building belongs to the XVI century, but perhaps earlier.
