Chapel-Shamb of the Prokhorovs" Novodevichy Monastery
Description:
In the central part of the Novodevichy Monastery there is a small chapel. It immediately attracts the attention of everyone entering the monastery. Many would like to get inside, see the decoration and unique mosaics. An open visit to the chapel has become possible recently. This small chapel is the tomb of the family of famous Prokhorov manufacturers.
Construction of the building began in 1911. It was ordered by the architect Pokrovsky, family members for the burial of the remains of their father Prokhorov Ivan Yakovlevich, as well as his wife and relatives. The tomb was built in the Neo-Russian style, typical for tombstone chapels. Granite and gray sandstone were used as material for construction. However, the style of the master is felt here. The gray color gives a darkness, which is emphasized by crosses and figures of angels.
The interior decoration is especially interesting, everything here is decorated with mosaics from Frolov’s workshop.
People who visited this place, warmly respond to the amazing atmosphere and talk about the desire to visit here again. You can get to the sights using the metro. Nearby are the stations Sportivnaya and Frunzenskaya.
