Chertanovo Street

Moscow, Russia

Description:

Chertanovskaya Street is located in the Southern Administrative District of Moscow. It starts from Balaklava Avenue and extends to Akademik Yangel Street, being a continuation of Simferopol Boulevard. Its length is about 5.2 kilometers, and its width is 40 meters. In the center of Chetranovskaya Street there is a tram line, a significant part of which is fenced and closes the passage of urban transport. The street was named after the famous village Chertanovo, which was nearby in the XVIII century.

In 1930, archaeological surveys taking place on the territory of Chertanovskaya Street made it possible to identify many historical monuments here. From the X to the XII century, Slavs-Vyatichi lived here, who left behind various burials in mounds. O. N. Bader, a well-known archaeologist and scientist, counted in the vicinity of the former village of Chertanovo the remains of six burial mounds dating from the XIII century. In our time, the main attraction of Chertanovo Street is the Temple of the Icon of the Mother of God, which annually attracts thousands of parishioners.
