Fountain "Friendship of the Peoples of the USSR"

Fountain "Friendship of Peoples" - the creation of the Union architect K.T. Topuridze, was presented in 1954. Its location in the very center of VDNKh is not accidental, because it is this monument to the agriculture of the Soviets that reveals the main idea of the entire VDNKh - the integrity of the republics of the Soviet Union. Initially, the working name was “Golden Sheaf”, meaning the wealth of the lands of the Union republics. But just before its opening, it was renamed “Friendship of Peoples”.

The fountain impresses with its majesty, and surprises with its size - its area is more than 3 thousand square meters.

In the center is a large sheaf of ears, more than 7 meters in height. He is surrounded by 16 girls as the personification of the 16 republics of the Soviet Union.

Each sculpture in a recognizable, national costume of its republic. When creating images, young women representing a certain nationality were invited. Unfortunately, not all the names of the models are known today.

Today, the Friendship of Peoples fountain is a real symbol of the Soviet Union, a part of our history.
