Fountain of Riga
Description:
On the square near the Riga station there is an original fountain, made in the classic European style of water intake facilities. It is based on an octagonal bowl with ornament of bronze. In the middle of the bowl, a column is erected, on top of which there is a caravel of copper and bronze parts, it rotates on a special axis.
In the thirties of the last century, a small park was laid out here, which gradually fell into desolation. Some damage was caused to the plantations during the construction of the Riga metro station, which has not yet been completed.
However, Moscow authorities announced that the park will soon be restored and landscaped. It will be an organic addition to the fountain and Baltic style of the Riga railway station building. However, the fountain is beautiful and unique today. Tourists continually gather around it.
The easiest way to get here is by metro to the Riga station or, from the station on a suburban train.
