City estate of P.I. Shchukin
Description:
The museum-estate dedicated to the urban housing of P.I. Shchukin has been open to visitors since 1895 for free visit. As an interesting fact - the owner, merchant and great collector Peter Ivanovich Shchukin independently conducted excursions to his home and dedicated visitors to the ancient collection, which presented not only ancient elements of the interior and decor of the city estate, but also an exhibition of antique weapons of those times. The interior also played a key role in the estate: wall carpets of that time, silver age dishes and church motifs of utensils presented on display.
At that time, artists-painters, known to us hitherto, worked in the museum: V. Serov, A. Vasnetsov, V. Surikov.
Soon the city estate expanded - to visit the walls of the museum became incomprehensible and it was decided to build a second building-additive estate, called the New Museum. Thus, the Moscow Museum "warehouse" was formed.
