The temple of the icon of the Mother of God “Life-bearing Source”

ooh Dolskaya, 2, Moscow, Russia

Description:

One of the main attractions of the palace and park ensemble "Tsaritsino" is the Temple of the icon of the Mother of God "Life-bearing Spring", built in the early XVII century in the style of Elizabethan Baroque. It includes the eightfold on the quadruple, the bell tower, the refectory, as well as two chapels - the Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessaloniki and the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

Initially, a wooden church was located on the site of the temple, painted in three colors, with a small chopped bell tower. In 1722, by order of Prince D. K. Kantemir, a stone temple was erected, and in 1779 a northern chapel was added to it in the name of the Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalun. Soon the monastery became a princely tomb - in 1771 Prince M. D. Kantemir was buried here, and later his wife A. Y. Kantemir.

Stylistically, the structure is a temple building characteristic of that time - an octagonal central volume, which is arranged on the principle of "eight on four" and is crowned with a beautiful faceted dome, twin pilasters, as well as window casings with an emphasis on painting in white. The monastery is currently operating.
