Church of Sergius of Radonezh in Rogozhskaya Sloboda
Russia, Moscow, Nikolayamskaya Street, 57-59
Description:
Known to many Muscovites and guests of the capital, the Church of Sergius of Radonezh in Rogozhskaya Sloboda was built in 1818 thanks to the financial assistance of Smolyansky G.P., who at that time held the position of state councilor, and concurrently the place of the head of this temple. But few people know that before the modern appearance, the building of the temple has repeatedly undergone changes.
Initially, the temple was wooden, evidence of this is a scribe book of 1628. In addition to many other cathedrals and temples, different parts of it were built at different times, each time changing the appearance of the building.
Currently, the oldest surviving part of the temple should be considered the refectory with the aisles of St. Sergius of Radonezh and St. Nicholas. At a certain point, the church of St. Sergius of Radonezh could be called a rival of the Moscow Kremlin itself in terms of the number of ancient icons and rich decoration.
The temple is located in the Tagansky district of the district of Moscow at the address Nikolayamskaya Street, 57-59. You can get there by public transport to the Kostomarovsk Bridge stop.
