The temple of the Vlahern Icon of the Mother of God at the estate of Vlahernskoe-Kuzminka

Russia, Moscow, street. Kuzminskaya

Description:

On the territory of the estate "Vlahernskoye-Kuzminki" there were three images of the same church, two of which burned in a fire in 1732 and 1758. The first wooden church was built in 1716 and was consecrated in honor of the family shrine of Kuzminok – the Vlachersk Icon of the Mother of God.

The extant stone church was rebuilt several times according to the projects of architects Zherebtsov and R. Kazakov. Before the faithful, this temple appeared in a strict classical style. In the 1920s, the church was closed and partially destroyed, only in 1992 it was transferred to the Orthodox Diocese. At the expense of citizens and patrons, restoration work was carried out, and a multi-pood bell was cast at the D.S. Likhachev plant.

A few words about the shrine, kept for several decades in this temple. This icon was brought to Russia from Constantinople to Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich and given to the Stroganov family for good service. Together with her was brought a letter, which told about its origin and universal veneration of the Vlahern monastery. This icon was written in the technique of wax, where the relics of Christian martyrs were added to the wax. At the moment, this icon is stored in the Tretyakov Gallery.
