Kutafya Tower
Russia, Moscow, Moscow Kremlin
Description:
A branch tower, which has other recognizable names, for example, Premostnaya and Borisoglebskaya. This is the tower through which we enter the Moscow Kremlin. It was built in 1516, and the only defensive complex has survived to this day. Of course, the tower has been rebuilt many times, and now we don’t see what it was in the 16th century. Even the height of the tower decreased from 20 to 13.5 meters.
Unusual to hear the name came, according to one version, from the word "kut" - shelter, and the main architect was the Italian Aleviz Fryazin. Previously, the tower was surrounded by a moat with water, only a narrow path connected it to the Trinity Bridge, along which help came from the Kremlin if necessary.
Getting to Kutafya Tower is most convenient by metro. The nearest stations are Alexander Garden, Borovitskaya, Lenin Library, Revolution Square and Hunting Row.
