Borodino Military Historical Museum-Reserve
village Borodinskoye, Mozhaisky district, Moscow region
Description:
The founder of the Borodino Museum is partly considered to be the commander M.I. Kutuzov. After the legendary battle with the French army, he personally wrote a letter to the owner of the village of Tarutina, where the battle took place. Kutuzov asked her to save the land, not to give it to buildings and not to plow.
The first exhibit of the museum is rightfully considered to be the Church of the Savior Not Made with Hands, which was built two years later in honor of General A.A. Tuchkov. Further, in 1839, a monument to those who died during the Great Patriotic War was opened on the Borodino field. And at the foot of the monument in the same year buried General P.I. Bagration, who was seriously wounded in 1812. Next to the grave built a gatehouse, which kept the plan of war, finds from the battlefield and so on.
Further, a wooden palace was built on the Borodino field. There were portraits of all commanders of the Patriotic War.
Everything was destroyed by World War II. There were fierce battles on the Borodino field. The Germans hid in a wooden palace, shooting off the Russians. The Nazis burned the portraits and set up a slaughterhouse in the building.
The restoration of the Borodino Museum began in 1944.
