moscow, General Ermolov St., 6
Description:
The opening of the Victory Park took place on May 9, 1995, the day of the fiftieth anniversary of the Victory. Construction took more than ten years - it began in 1984. The memorial complex currently includes a number of museums and memorial buildings: the Museum of the Great Patriotic War, several monuments to the heroes who died during the war of 1941-45, as well as the Church of St. George the Victorious. But the main attraction of the Park is the Victory Monument - a steel obelisk 141.8 meters high, closer to the peak decorated with the figure of the goddess of victory Niki cast in bronze. The total weight of the Victory Monument exceeds 1000 tons, and the bronze figure of the goddess Niki weighs 25 tons. Below, near the base of this giant memorial, there is a statue of George the Victorious, striking a snake with a spear strike.
In addition, in Victory Park you can see an impressive collection of combat vehicles and artillery. Throughout the Victory Park, there are 1,418 fountains (one fountain for each day of the war), which glow in red color at dusk, which symbolizes the blood shed by the heroes. This memorial park is very popular not only among tourists, but also among the indigenous people of the city.
