Small Armoured Street
Description:
The history of Malaya Bronnaya Street begins during the reign of Ivan the Terrible. In the Armor Sloboda, the tsar settled “foreign” masters of saber affairs. Masters forged shells and mail, which were then called armor. Hence the modern name.
It is known that first the street was called Konstantinovskaya, and then - Resurrection, in honor of the Church of the Resurrection of the Word. Due to numerous fires, Small Armored lost its original appearance. Most of the local buildings date from the first half of the XX century.
Today, the street is known not only for its architectural monuments, but also for many fashionable institutions. Begins Small Armor from Tver Boulevard, near the Nikitsky Gate Square. You can get by metro to Pushkinskaya, Tverskaya, Chekhovskaya or Arbatskaya stations.
Walking up the street, you will meet the Theatre on Malaya Bronnaya and the monument to Sholom Aleichem. At the intersection of Small Bronnaya and Big there is a house where Svyatoslav Richter lived. The pianist’s museum is open to the public.
