Mansion of Arseny Morozov

Russia, Moscow, St. Elevation, 16

Description:

The Moscow building, which today houses the House of Receptions of the Government of the Russian Federation, once belonged to millionaire Arseny Morozov. The mansion, unique and exotic for Moscow design, was built in 1899 under the leadership of architect Viktor Mazyrin.

Morozov thought about the construction of his own castle after a trip to Portugal and Spain, where he was indelibly impressed by the Palace of Pena. Upon returning home, together with Mazyrin, it was decided to build a personal mansion combining the style of Spanish medieval and Portuguese architecture, something resembling a foreign palace.

In the building, as if there is a special lack of symmetry, and it is a mixture of styles, and at one time caused a lot of gossip in Moscow society. Today the mansion of Arseniy Morozov is a monument of the architectural heritage of the country.

In 2003, the building was completely reconstructed, as well as a complete restoration of the interior of the rooms of the mansion. Diplomatic talks and government meetings are currently held at the house.
