Monument to Andrei Rublev

Russia, Moscow, Andronevskaya Square, 10

Description:

Andrei Rublev rightfully takes the place of the most famous and revered painter in Russia. Monuments have been erected in many cities. However, the monument located in Moscow deserves special attention.

In the process of creating a colorful sculpture, which was presented in 1967, famous masters took part: E. Yavorsky and V. Lenskaya. Initially, the monument was installed at the gates of the Savior-Andronic Monastery, after 13 years it was moved to the territory of the Novospassky Monastery.

The appearance of the sculpture deserves special attention. The masters managed to convey the lyrical mood of a man who throughout his life was engaged in writing icons. A focused look, a slightly bowed head, a colorful beard and long hair, a plaque frozen in his hand - this is how Andrei Rublev appears before the viewer, who was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church.
