Monument to P.M. Tretyakov
Description:
Perhaps another place for the monument to Pavel Tretyakov in Moscow is difficult to imagine. Of course, it is located near the Tretyakov Gallery, which was founded by this Russian philanthropist, a fan of the work of many artists and a well-known entrepreneur. The world collection of paintings, which was collected by Tretyakov, was later repeatedly replenished, but its basis is still his research.
It is noteworthy that initially on this place was a bust of Vladimir Lenin. Then it was replaced by a lifetime statue of Joseph Stalin by the famous sculptor Sergei Merkulov, but during the period of condemnation of the cult of personality it was moved to the courtyard of the art museum.
The project of the monument to Tretyakov was also designed by the famous sculptor Alexander Kibalnikov and architect Igor Rozhin. The grand opening took place on April 29, 1980.
Monuments are usually made from photographs or sketches from family albums. But in this case, another work of art was taken as a basis - a portrait of Pavel Tretyakov by Ilya Repin.
Getting to the Tretyakov Gallery is the closest from the Novokuznetskaya metro station. The monument stands in Lavrushinsky lane.
