Square of Europe

Square of Europe, Moscow, 121059

Description:

One of the youngest squares in the capital. It was built almost exactly a year from 2001 to 2002. It was a Russian-Belgian project symbolizing the unity of Europe. Similar projects have been implemented in other major megacities in Europe and Asia.

On the square are 48 columns with flags of European countries. The center of the square is decorated with a sculptural composition “The Abduction of Europe” by the famous Belgian master Olivier Streble. It is the largest abstract sculpture in Moscow. The diameter of the fountain, the center of which the sculpture is marked, is 11 meters. The backlight of the ensemble is LED and contains 4,000 lamps. Very beautiful lighting at night.

A similar sculpture is installed in 4 more cities: in Brussels, Odessa, Krasnoyarsk and on the island of Crete.

The square is located next to the Kiev railway station.
