The Cathedral of the Savior of the Unmade Image

Andronevskaya Square 10, Moscow, Russia

Description:

The Cathedral of the Savior of the Savior-Andronikov Monastery was built in the late 14th - early 15th century. The temple was painted in 1428 by the Monk Daniel Cherny and his disciple the Monk Andrei Rublev.

However, the original painting is almost not preserved, there are only fragments of ornamental painting on the slopes of the altar windows. In the cathedral the Monk Andrei Rublev was buried.

The Savior Cathedral of the Spaso-Andronikov Monastery was built on the site of a wooden one built by St. Andronik. This is the oldest of the existing and the most significant monument of the first half of the 15th century. On the basis of many traditional techniques of early Moscow architecture, a new type of temple was created in it, which was then developed in the architecture of Moscow in the 15-16 centuries.
