The Cathedral of Basil the Blessed
Description:
There is a legend that the architects who built this temple were blinded. Allegedly, Ivan the Terrible after the completion of construction asked them if they could build another temple, at least equal to this in beauty. The masters answered in the affirmative, and then the king ordered to deprive them of sight. Such behavior is similar to Grozny, but historians are inclined to think that blinding is fiction. The builders at that time were worth their weight in gold, and to do so would be too wasteful.
The Cathedral of St. Basil is located in the heart of Moscow on Red Square. There is another legend that Lazar Kaganovich insisted on demolishing it, as it allegedly interferes with the parades. But Stalin resolutely suppressed such attempts.
Initially, the temple of Basil the Blessed was wooden and was called the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin. But before the campaign on Kazan, the tsar in prayer promised to build in case of victory on the site of the cathedral, a temple that Russia has not yet seen. That's what happened. The temple as an architectural building has no analogues. It is based on eight churches that surround the central and ninth. Each has its own separate entrance.
