Lenivka Street
Description:
Lenivka Street is a street in the center of Moscow, running between Prechistenskaya embankment and Volkhonka Street, is the shortest in Moscow after Venetsianov Street.
The name of the street is associated with the Lazy Torch located here in the 17th century - a market where goods were sold directly from the cart. The street had an important transport value, linking the center of Moscow with Zamoskvorechye before the first stone bridge across the Moscow-Vsekhsvyatsky River came to it in 1693.
In the 1770s, one of the sides of the street was occupied by the Naryshkins’ estate, and in the middle of the 19th century, in the house No. 3 owned by Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov’s uncle, the artist Tropinin Vasily Andreevich lived.
Now on Lenivka Street there is a gallery "Na Lanivka", opened in 2005, where the works of famous artists of the 20th century are presented.
