Shchapovo Manor

shchapovo, Shchapovskoye settlement, Moscow

Description:

The Shchapovo estate was named after its last owner, the manufacturer I. Shchapov. He was known for opening a so-called lace school for girls and a school for agriculture for boys.

Previously, there was a village of Alexandrovo, which was owned by a noble boyar Vasily Petrovich Morozov. He was a confidant of Boris Godunov himself and a relative of the first sovereign of the Romanov dynasty, Mikhail Fedorovich. After the Morozov dynasty was interrupted, the estate was given to the treasury, and at different times they were owned by many famous families, including the Arsenyevs - relatives of M. Y. Lermontov.

The architectural ensemble of the museum includes the still functioning Assumption Church and a complex of ponds laid, apparently, under Morozov.

The museum is located in the village of Shchapovo of the Troitsky administrative district of Moscow. Interestingly, it was headed for some time by Yaroslav Shchapov, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the grandnephew of the last owner of the estate.
