Upper Radishchevskaya Street
Russia, Moscow, Tagan district
Description:
One of the largest central streets of Moscow is Upper Radishchevskaya Street, which is located in the Tagansky district. It stretches from Yauzskaya Street to the most beautiful Taganskaya Square.
Earlier, the street was called Upper Bolvanovskaya, since in the XVII century it was located Bolvanovskaya Sloboda, where they made bars for the manufacture of hats. After it was renamed in memory of Radishchev Alexei Nikolaevich, the author of the book “Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow”, who lived here since 1979. At the intersection of Upper and Lower Radishchevskaya streets there is a monument to this outstanding writer.
The street is decorated with the Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker, which is distinguished by an elegant pre-Petrine architectural style: a tent bell tower, and a whole pyramid of kokoshniks.
Another attraction of the Upper Radishchevskaya Street is a beautiful three-storey building built in 1880. The building has a non-residential purpose, and in its premises there are cafes "Travels", tourist companies and offices.
