Tower on the Red Gate Square
ooh Sadovaya-Spasskaya, 21, metro station - Red Gate, Moscow, Russia.
Description:
In the 50s, at the suggestion of Stalin, it was decided to build a complex of high-rise buildings in Moscow, which later became known as "Stalin skyscrapers". There are 7 of them - the building of Moscow State University, the hotel "Ukraine", the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the hotel "Leningradskaya" and 3 residential buildings. All of them are made in one architectural style - Stalin's Empire.
One of these skyscrapers was an administrative and residential building on the Red Gate Square. Its construction took place in 1947-1952. Once on the site of this high-rise there was a large block of residential buildings, including the house in which M. Y. Lermontov was born in 1814.
This building is 24 floors high, which is crowned by a tent. In the Soviet years, the building was occupied by the Ministry of Transport Construction, and now - Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange, Bank, Transstroy Corporation, Russian Union of Railway and Transport Builders.
In the side buildings, whose height is from 11 to 15 floors, apartments are located, and on the first floor - a jewelry store, the Transport publishing house.
The peculiarity of this building is the technique that was used during construction, the building was built simultaneously with the metro station "Red Gate" and in the vicinity of it, there was a danger that the ground under the high-rise building during construction may subside and the skyscraper will tilt. Therefore, the ground around the pit, where the metro station should then be, was artificially frozen by the technology of building the metro and built a building specifically with a slope, which was calculated by engineers. Then, when the ground melted, the building took a vertical position. But still not ideally vertical, as a result, the building often has problems with the operation of the elevator. This method has not been used anywhere else.
