Gallery A-3

Starokonyusny Per., 39, Moscow

About the company:

House 39 in Starokonyushenny Lane has always been the center of attraction for connoisseurs of art in all its genres and manifestations. The A3 Gallery begins its existence back in 1986, when such cultural figures as Prigov with Kabakov, Tsoi with Shevchuk and Gumilev with Nabokov came to the forefront of national art. The independent cultural sphere began to take shape already in the 1970s and by the 1980s its authors had become cramped in the “underground”. The new art required completely different platforms for exhibiting, as well as the most important – its viewer. That is why in almost every district of Moscow, exhibition halls and venues are beginning to appear with an installation on “art events of a completely new level of freedom.” No exception was the Gallery A3, called from 1987 to 1992 - "Arbat Exhibition Hall", located in the Kiev district. The gallery received its current name in 1992, at the same time there was an expansion of the territory, which allowed the employees of the exhibition space not only to conduct exhibition activities, but also to conduct scientific work, as well as form their own collection and library. The exhibition hall has turned into a real gallery of museum type.
