The opening of the Art Gallery of Europe and America of the XIX-XX centuries is one of the stages of creating a "museum town" on Volkhonka, which Ivan Tsvetaev dreamed of, a unique space that forms a special cultural environment of Moscow.
A significant part of the exposition of the Gallery is formed on the basis of private collections of the XIX - early XX centuries (I.A. Morozov, S.I. Shchukin, S.M. Tretyakov and many others) is a tribute to the wonderful collectors and patrons, whose efforts enriched the cultural heritage of Russia. In the 26 halls of the Gallery, works of representatives of all the most important trends of European art of the XIX-XX centuries are exhibited (from the Nazarenes and artists of the Paris Salon to the Fauves and abstractists). Separate rooms are devoted to the works of the most famous artists (Monet, Cezanne, Gauguin Matisse, Picasso). |
