About the company:

The museum opened on December 15, 1999. It is located in the house of the former estate of the late XVIII century - the mansion of the merchant Gubin, built by architect Matvey Kazakov. The creator and first director of the museum was the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Z.K. Tsereteli. Many of the exhibits in the museum collection are from his personal collection, which was donated by the owner.

The museum presents the main stages of formation and further development of avant-garde art. Most of the collection consists of domestic works, but at the same time a significant section is devoted to the works of foreign authors. For example, the permanent exhibition includes graphic sheets by Pablo Picasso, Fernand Leger, Juan Miro, sculptures by Salvador Dali, Armand, Arnaldo Pomodoro, paintings by Henri Rousseau, Françoise Gillet, installation by Japanese conceptualist Yukinori Yanagi.

The works of classics of the Russian avant-garde of the early XX century are a historical part of the museum collection. Many of the exhibits were returned by Z.K. Tsereteli from abroad - purchased at auctions and in prestigious galleries. One of the sections of the exposition is devoted to the work of the avant-garde artists of the second wave - the movement of nonconformism of the 1960-1970s.
