It is not often in the history of our Fatherland that painting, unlike literature and music, gave birth to a spiritual leader, it is not often that the painter’s brush so worried the Russian person. The magnetism of K. Vasilyev’s paintings does not let the viewer go for a long time, awakens genetic memory, sweeping through the thickness of temporary layers in the forgotten era of our people’s youth. The scale of the artist’s personality did not allow him to simply display historical facts, he was attracted by mythology, a mystery that he must unravel. Each canvas of the mythological genre created by him is a complete image-symbol. The secret that every person can carry in himself all his life, but is not able to express. And suddenly this secret, hidden in the bowels of the subconscious appears in the colors on the canvases of the master! Perhaps it is such an accurate hit in the image that shocks the viewer so much, attracts again and again to his paintings.

The grand opening of the Konstantin Vasiliev Museum took place on October 6, 1998. It can rightly be considered as a people’s. For for a penny, for a tear, the desire of thousands of fans of Vasiliev’s painting to save paintings and create a national art gallery was compressed.
