It is difficult to overestimate the contribution of Alexander Goldenweiser to the development of Russian musical culture. As a professor at the Moscow Conservatory, he devoted more than 55 years to pedagogical activities, educating about 200 talented pianists. Transmitting pedagogical experience, Goldenweiser created a dynasty of pianists, whose names can rightfully be considered an ornament not only of Russian but also of world piano culture.
In the house on Tverskaya Street, the famous musician lived for 20 years, from 1941 to 1961. It was during this period that he initiated the creation of a museum of piano art. In 1955, Alexander Goldenweiser transferred to the state his unique collection of book and music publications, paintings, graphics, sculptures, rare photographs and household items that tell about the musical and social life of the late XIX – first half of the XX century. In 1959, at the suggestion of Alexander Borisovich, the Museum-Apartment became the first branch of the Russian National Museum of Music.
The exposition of the museum space consists of a memorial part (hall, study, music room, dining room) and a chamber concert hall. Each room reflects certain aspects of the life and work of Alexander Goldenweiser. In the office you can see photos of the family and close friends of the pianist, household items associated with them. The decoration of the music room, its soul are two salon pianos of the German company S. Bechstein with a unique sound characteristic of the instruments of the XIX century. For these pianos, the maestro played in four hands with Sergei Rachmaninov, Alexander Scriabin, Nikolai Medner and other outstanding musicians of the XIX and XX centuries. In the center of the dining room is an amazing centipede table, behind which friends of the hospitable Goldenweiser house gathered. In this room you can see things that belonged to Leo Tolstoy. They testify to the strong friendship of two outstanding people.
