Satire Theatre Museum

125009 Moscow, Triumphal Square, 2

About the company:

In the Theatre of Satires, they cherish history, passing it on from generation to generation. The earliest documents on the activities of the Theatre of Satire date back to the year of its foundation (1924). The first posters and programs, photographs of those years give an idea of the repertoire, the creative appearance of the team, introduce artists whose names are inscribed in the stage chronicle of Russia. In May 2002, a museum was opened in the theater building. It stores photos, autographs, reviews, posters and programs of performances. There is a special section in the museum: sketches of scenery and costumes made by masters of scenography, such as A. Tyshler, V. Ryndin, Kukryniksy, V. Leventhal, M. Kurilko, M. Sokolova. Among the performances designed by them are those that make up the golden fund of the theater: “The Ordinary Miracle” by E. Schwartz, “Don Juan, or Love for Geometry” by M. Frisch. There are works dated 1932-1934. Kukryniksy then designed the “City of Stupids” by M. Saltykov-Shchedrin, P. Williams – “Five centimeters” by V. Schweitzer, Y. Pimenov – “Mercury” by L. Verneille. The names of many of these plays today do not tell the viewer anything, but the history of their productions has been preserved in sketches - authentic works of art. And all this is the merit of a person who, from the pre-war years, collected and stored works of theatrical and decorative art, newspapers, photographs and many other testimonies of the life of the theater, artist-decorator A. Reichel. There is a section in the museum with unusual gifts from fans. A great contribution to the development and maintenance of the exhibition is made by the head of the museum Marina Kalinina and the artists-decorators of the theater Valentin Shikharev and Tamara Rodionova. Items from the collection of the Theatre Museum are often exhibited at exhibitions dedicated to its history, anniversaries of actors and directors, in the Theatre of Satire and beyond, including at the A.A. Bakhrushin State TsTM.
