The obelisk to the hero city of Moscow was opened on May 9, 1977 (architects G. Zakharov, Z. Chernysheva, sculptor A. Shcherbakov) at the intersection of Bolshaya Dorogomilovskaya Street and Kutuzovsky Avenue. A 40-meter-high four-sided obelisk of gray granite ends with a golden star. It depicts the Order of Lenin and the text of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on awarding Moscow with the title "Hero City" and other awards.
