Museum of World Calligraphy

5th Radiation Spot, 7th Building 6, Moscow, 107014

About the company:

The Modern Museum of Calligraphy is the first museum in Russia dedicated to the art of writing.

It has recently been officially accepted as a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

The mission of the project is to create a beautiful, healthy society. The initiators of the opening of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy were: the National Union of Calligraphers and the IPC Sokolniki. Around the world, in particular in Turkey, China, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, there are museums with permanent exhibitions of calligraphic works, in Russia such experience has no analogues. The official opening date of the museum is August 14, 2008. The exposition of the museum includes unique samples of writing, among its exhibits are world masterpieces created by recognized masters of calligraphy. The museum presents exquisite samples of Slavic and European writing, refined works of Jewish and Arabic schools of calligraphy, strict forms of classical Japanese calligraphy, examples of ancient Chinese writing, revealing the history of the art of calligraphy and reflecting new facets of fine art; domestic and foreign books on the art of calligraphy; rare manuscript editions issued in single editions; written instruments of the past and present.

After the International Exhibition of Calligraphy in late September in St. Petersburg, the museum exposition has increased more than five times.

In autumn, a real pearl appeared in the collection - a handwritten Constitution of the Russian Federation, executed with the participation of the National Union of Calligraphers. Also, visitors will be able to see the works of students of famous calligraphers – those who are just beginning their way in art, adopting the skills of their teachers.

The modern museum of calligraphy is a new and really unusual combination of painting and graphics and excellent answers to questions: how to combine rest and culture, what exhibition halls and galleries to visit in Moscow. The exposition of the museum will be interesting to visitors of different ages and will be an excellent addition to the program of both art and general school and university education, and for students of specialized educational institutions will serve as an excellent illustration for the course of lectures and will simply be indispensable for the general development and better understanding of painting and artistic techniques described in various literary sources devoted to fine arts.
