Eternal Flame on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Manezhnaya Street, 2/10c2, Moscow

About the company:

In December 1966, on the days of the 25th anniversary of the defeat of Hitler’s troops near Moscow, the ashes of the Unknown Soldier were transferred and solemnly buried from the 41st kilometer of the Leningrad Highway to the Alexander Garden. On May 8, 1967, the memorial architectural ensemble "The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" was opened. The Eternal Flame of Glory was lit on the grave, which bursts from the middle of a bronze star placed in the center of a mirror-polished labrador black square framed by a red granite platform. The fire was lit in Leningrad from the flames burning on the Champ de Mars. Eternal flame illuminates a five-pointed military star. “Your name has unbeknownst to your immortality” is inscribed on the granite slab of the tombstone. Nearby, on the granite wall, there is an inscription: "To those who fell for their homeland." 1941-1945”. On the right along the Kremlin wall are placed in a series of blocks of dark red porphyry, under them in the urns stored the sacred land of hero cities - Leningrad, Kiev, Minsk, Volgograd, Sevastopol, Odessa, Kerch, Novorossiysk, Murmansk, Brest fortress, Tula and Smolensk. On each block - the name of the city and the minted image of the medal "Golden Star". The tombstone of the grave-monument is crowned with a volumetric bronze emblem - a soldier's helmet, a combat banner and a laurel branch. The ensemble was built according to the project of architects D.I. Burdin, V.A. Klimov, Yu.A. Rabaev, sculptor N.V. Tomsky. Every year on May 9, celebrating the Victory Day, the whole country honors the memory of the dead with a minute of silence, and people lay flowers on the graves of soldiers and monuments in their honor.
