Vnukovo Airport

Description:

Vnukovo Airport (VKO)

Vnukovo Airport is the international airport of Moscow and the Moscow region. Its construction began in 1937, and the first stage of the airport complex was launched in 1942. In 1945, it was decided to move the main Moscow civil airport from the M. V. Frunze airfield, located on the Khodynsky field in Vnukovo.

Vnukovo Airport has become a real monument of architecture. The appearance of the terminal was primarily designed to create a mood for passengers, for whom air travel was still an exceptional event in life, so the terminals of that time were distinguished by monumentality and grandeur of the architectural image, which was emphasized by high spacious halls decorated with various decor: stucco, mosaic, painting.

For more than sixty years, Vnukovo Airport has been servicing flights of top officials of the country, as well as heads of foreign states and governments arriving in Russia.

Vnukovo is the oldest airport in Moscow, which serves both regular and government flights.
