Sea Orthodox Church of the Savior-on-Waters

verkhne-Rostinskoye Highway and Chelyuskintsev Street, Murmansk, Murmansk Region 183036, Russian Federation

Description:

The Sea Orthodox Church of the Savior on Waters, built in 2002 with funds donated by the residents of Murmansk, is an Orthodox shrine and one of the architectural sights of the city. The name of the temple was given in honor of the icon of the Savior walking on water. The church is part of a memorial complex created in memory of the sailors who died in peacetime.

The construction of the temple on the hill, which overlooks the entire city, was timed to coincide with the 85th anniversary of the founding of the city. This church became the third in the city and the first stone temple built on a hill, near the Semyonovsky Lake. Stylistically, the one-apse church of the Savior-on-the-waters is decorated on the model of ancient Russian temples, with a bell tower and a peregrine. Among the revered shrines are the icons of Jesus Christ, northern saints and wonderworkers - St. Tryphon of Pechenga and Varlaam of Keret, the icon of the Mother of God, the Apostle Andrew the First-Called.
