Munozero

Russia, Murmansk region

Description:

Munozero is located in the Tersky district, in the south-west of the Murmansk region.

It is part of the complex water system of the White Sea, connected to which by the rivers Lamuksa and Moon. The relief of the coast is gentle, its western and northern parts are heavily swamped.

In the east, pine forests extend, and in the south small hills rise - up to 150 meters high. The shape is elongated, expanding to the south. The area is 21 square kilometers. It's about 7 kilometers long.

There are many small unnamed islands scattered around the pool. In the north-west, the Moon River begins from the lake, connecting it with Canozer, and in the north-east the Shchuchya River flows into it. In addition, picturesque nameless, stony streams flow from the local mountains into the lake. The largest of them is the Travnikov stream.

Munozero freezes in early November, and the icebreaker begins in early June.

The coast is quite deserted, only in the south-east there are few residents of the semi-abandoned village of Eastern Munozero. The south coast crosses the winter. West of the lake stretches Kanozersky reserve.
