Umbozero
Description:
Umbozero is the second largest lake in the Murmansk region, lying between the Khibiny and Lovozero Tundras. The territory of the lake includes several islands, the largest of which are Bolshaya Island, Spruce Island, Moroshkin Island and Sarvanovsky Island. There are not many islands here, so the wind on the lake is strong. The water freezes in December and opens in late June.
Umbozero is one of the deepest lakes in Russia and the deepest on the entire Kola Peninsula. Its depth in places reaches 115 meters! In the southern part of the lake, the Umba River originates, in the north the Sura and Chuda rivers flow into it, and in the east - Kitsa. Umboser can be reached by car.
The nature here is incredibly beautiful. The large and picturesque Umbozero is ideal for a tourist trip. You can make a hike in Lovozersky, Khibinsky tundra, to Mount Angwundaschorr, to the plains of the southern coast, or go down along the shores on kayaks under sail.
