Wadozero

Russia, Murmansk region

Description:

Vadozero is located in the south-west of the Murmansk region, in the urban district of Polar Zori.

It lies in a wetland, hilly area, southwest of the Polar Zoreys. The lake is surrounded by forested elevations. The highest hill up to 316 meters high is Mount Saber.

Vadozero belongs to the White Sea basin and is connected to it by the Pasma River. On the southwestern coast, the Summer River flows into the lake, and many streams flow into it from the surrounding hills.

Small ducts connect Vadozero with nearby lakes.

The lake has an elongated uneven shape. It consists of 2 parts - Vadozer itself and the narrow Wadguba Bay in the west. The area of the basin is about 29 km2, making it the 23rd largest lake of the peninsula.

There are no settlements nearby. Only a few fishing huts stand alone on the shores.

The nearest settlements are located at a distance of at least 20 km (Polar Zori, Rikolatva and Kandalaksha).

The lake is of commercial value, as it is very rich in fish, including salmon. Fishing regulations allow catching lake and river fish by nets only with paid one-time permits. Presumably, the name Vadozera is associated with the surrounding hilly terrain and comes from the word "vatt" - "hill".
