The initiator of the museum is the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of the Murmansk Regional Executive Committee (Chairman Sherstyuk Vitaly Pavlovich). This is the only sports museum in the Murmansk region. Its exposition tells about the first Festival of the North (1934), about the development of the sports movement in the region in subsequent years, about international competitions (since 1970) in the framework of the Polar Olympics. The museum is a center for the promotion of physical culture and sports in the Arctic. Annually, meetings of sports veterans with young people, with media representatives are organized, awards are held for the winners of sports competitions of the city, photojournalists and sports commentators.
