Lermontov Drama Theater

d. Stavropol, Lenin Square, 1

About the company:

Theatre, what is this? It is difficult to give an exact definition, it would seem that you know that all this is unreal, that everything that happens on the stage is all a production, but on the other hand, the fine line between reality and unreality begins to disappear at some point, and your consciousness is completely immersed in what is happening on the stage. If you have ever been to the theater, you will not remain indifferent! You can talk endlessly about acting, whether it is good or bad, but what you can say for sure is that you are already immersed in theatrical magic. I would like to write more about this theatrical magic.

Lermontov Drama Theater is such an amazing place where theatrical magic is subtly intertwined with the cultural heritage of the Stavropol Territory. The history of the theater dates back to 1843. The founder of the creation of the theater troupe was the provincial secretary G. Yatsenko. He had a great love for the theater, but at the same time he had little knowledge of culture, so he recruits a rather mediocre troupe. Although it is necessary to give him credit - he laid the first stone in the creation of the future Drama Theater. The director of the Yatsenko troupe was Ivan Christianovich Dreisig. It was he who created a new troupe of the theater, having previously invited the actor N. Petrov to his partners. In 1845, merchant Gonilovsky built a stone building of the theater (now the house of officers), and this year is considered the year of the creation of the first Russian theater in the North Caucasus. The difficult, full of ups and downs, life of the new theater begins, lasting for more than 165 years.

October 1, 1910 in Stavropol opened a new building of the theater, built by merchants brothers Mesnyankin (now in this building is the regional Philharmonic). In 1920, the theater was awarded the title of the First Stavropol Theater named after V. I. Lenin. In the autumn of 1944, the theater with two brigades went to the front. In total, during the war, more than 500 chef performances were played. The year of the end of the war was doubly significant for the theater - it turned 100 years old. In 1964, the theater was named after M.Y. Lermontov, he moved to a new building, which is now located.

The repertoire of the theater consists of the best plays of classical and modern literature: "Romeo and Juliet" by V. Shakespeare, "Hero of Our Time" by M.Y. Lermontov, "Extraordinary Adventures in the Mirandolina Hotel" ("Hotel Mistress") by K. Goldonia et al. In our poster there are plays and modern authors, such as R. Kuni (“Clinical case”), Yu. Polyakov (“Classmates”), G. Nagorny (“Life-Life”), etc. There is also its author - Honored Artist of the Russian Federation M.A. Novakov, who writes his plays with special trepidation and love, as he comes up with characters and plots for actors with whom he serves on the stage of the Stavropol Theater for more than one year. The theater is proud of its cooperation with the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Y.I. Eremin, an outstanding director of our time, who in 2009 staged the play “Hero of Our Time” by M.Y. Lermontov, and in 2012 became the artistic director of the play “Casting/Casting”, a play of which he is the author.
