Museum of Local History "Earth-Space"

The museum was established by the decision of the Executive Committee of the Volgograd Regional Council of People's Deputies in 1986. Construction of the building began in 1978, but due to lack of funds and slow pace of construction, the museum building was ready for operation only in 1986. The museum was opened to the public on May 9, 1990. From 1986 to 1992, the museum was a branch of the Volgograd Regional Museum of Local History, in 1992 it was transferred to the Nikolaev Committee for Culture.

The museum has three permanent exhibitions, executed at a high ideological and artistic level:

- The largest hall of the museum is set aside for the exposition on space exploration "Space in the life of a person", because our countryman twice Hero of the Soviet Union cosmonaut Yu.V. Malyshev was involved in this stellar affair. The exposition covers an area of 120 square meters. More than 1000 unique exhibits - photos, collections of souvenirs of Yu.V. Malyshev, who visited low-Earth orbit (suit, preventive suit "Penguin-3", tools, cosmonaut chair "Logement") keeps our museum. June 6, 1999 Nikolaev Museum became a member of the All-Russian public organization "Association of Museums of Cosmonautics of Russia";

- "History of Sloboda Nikolaevskaya" - the exposition tells about the appearance and formation of the settlement for the period from 1747 to 1917. The history of the city of Nikolaevsk is firmly connected with the beginning of the development of salt lake Elton. The exposition covers an area of 60 square meters. In the hall "Sloboda Nikolaevskaya" a lot of rare photos of the old settlement, items of peasant life, furniture by Nikolaev cabinet makers, icons, theological books, ancient clocks, coins;

The exposition "The Great Patriotic War" has 2 sub-themes: "The rear - the front", which presents materials telling about the help of the Nikolaev front, and "Great privates" - about the Nikolaev - defenders of the Motherland. The section covers an area of 70 square meters.

The museum also has an exhibition hall that houses temporary exhibitions. The themes of the exhibitions are very diverse, they chronologically complement the history of the city and the district on local historical material. In addition, it exhibits traveling exhibitions from the museums of Volgograd, St. Petersburg, Rostov, Samara, Kamyshin. Traveling exhibitions have a diverse character: historical, decorative and applied, artistic. All of them are built at a high artistic level and are designed to educate and replenish the aesthetic, moral, patriotic potential of the adult and younger generation of Nikolaev residents and guests of the city.
