Chkalovsk, Pureh, Balakhna, Sormovo. Up the Volga to the Gorky Sea
Description:
We start from the monument to Valery Chkalov on Minin square and Pozharsky and Chkalov staircase. From Nizhny Novgorod to Chkalovsk about 110 km. We will go through Sormovo, see how the Sormovo workers lived before the revolution and see the unique Russian Renault tank.
We will go to the homeland of Kuzma Minin - to Balakhna, inspect the Pokrovsky Monastery and the oldest stone church in the Nizhny Novgorod diocese - Nikolskaya. Take a photo at the monument of Kozma Minin and visit its museum. From the embankment of Balakhna there is a wonderful view of the Volga. In the museums of Balakhna you will find a story about local crafts: salt-making and shipbuilding. If desired, you can take a master class on pertussis lace.
In four hours we are already on the shores of the Gorky Sea. We will pass through the village of Pureh, the former patrimony of Prince Pozharsky, famous for its purekh bells. Chkalovsk (Vasileva Sloboda) is the same age as Gorodzu, founded in the XII century.
V. P. Chkalov Museum is located in the house where the pilot was born and grew up. The exhibition includes personal belongings, including a Packard car. In the hangar with aircraft, a collection of aircraft of the 30s is presented. You will see the plane on which the famous pilot made the flight "Moscow-Vancouver". Then we will look at the Museum of Speeds, where we will get acquainted with the works of academician and general designer Rostislav Alekseev. The rich fund of the museum is dedicated to the development of speed on the water - from burlaks to ekranoplanes.
In good weather we can reach the village of Katunki and admire the views of the Gorky Sea. You can return to Nizhny Novgorod both on the left and on the right bank of the Volga.
