I invite you on an excursion to the Holy Trinity Makarievsky Zheltovodsky convent, located 100 km. from Nizhny Novgorod downstream of the Volga in the village of Makaryevo, Nizhny Novgorod region.

Three times in its history, the monastery was abandoned and restored three times. He was male and he was female.

It was founded in 1434 by the monk of the Nizhny Novgorod Pechersk Monastery Makariy. In search of solitude, he came here, built a cell for himself at the mouth of the Kerzhenets forest river, on the banks of the Yellow Lake, later absorbed by the Volga. Previously, there was Lake Yellow between the Volga and the monastery, hence the name. Soon other ascetics joined him. But five years later, the monastery was destroyed to the ground by the Kazan khan Ulu-Muhammed.

The monastery was in desolation for about 200 years and was renewed only in 1626, and its good location contributed to the fact that under its walls there was a bargaining. Therefore, here, in the middle of the Volga Road, the largest Makariev Fair in Russia was established. It was from trade fees that the monastery was rebuilt, stone buildings were erected.

In 1817, the Makariev Fair was moved to Nizhny Novgorod, the income of the monastery was poor, a major fire occurred in it, and soon the monastery was abolished. The monastery was restored again in 1883, but as a female one. The next trial and closure of the monastery was in the Soviet years. And like a phoenix from the ashes, it came to life again, restored in 1991. Now the Makariev Monastery is an active female monastery.

• Church of St. Macarius of the Yellow and Unzhen Wonderworker (1808);
• Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God (1651);
• The bell tower;
• Rotunda at the burial place in 1640, Abbot Abraham;
• Walls and Towers (1677)
• garden with ancient tombs
• You can worship the relics of St. Macarius, transferred here in 2007.

travel time from the center of Nizhny Novgorod 1.5-2 hours;

visiting the monastery for 1.5-2 hours;

Entrance to the monastery is free.

To visit the monastery, it is necessary: women - a headdress (a scarf or scarf), a skirt. For those who have forgotten, all this is given out in the monastery.

In addition, the following are paid:

• tour of the monastery, conducted by one of the employees of the monastery - 1000 rubles per person;
• food.

1-4 people - passenger car, guide behind the wheel;
