Nizhny Novgorod

Open-air museum (walking tour on Christmas street)

Description:

In the 19th century, Nizhny Novgorod, a city at the confluence of two great Russian rivers - the Volga and the Oka, became one of the main trading cities of Russia. "Pocket of Russia" is about him. The city itself is interesting for its location, 7 hills, the main streets with the most interesting sights.

It so happened that people who are not familiar with the city want to see first of all the “main street” – B. Pokrovskaya. But often do not even suspect that there is another “main” Nizhny street – Christmas. Yes, it is not quite pedestrian, yes, it is not so noisy, and you will not see such a crowd of people on it as in other places. But, you know, isn’t that an advantage (even if not a big one?)?

This street has always been considered the best in Nizhny Novgorod for the beauty of buildings. The street is commercial, on it was concentrated all commercial and industrial activities of the city. But despite this, this street is full of contrasts and opposites.

Excursions route

The tour begins on the youngest square of Nizhny Novgorod - People's Unity, where you can trace the history from the 13th to the 21st century. You will see the apartment houses Rukavishnikov, Blinov, Bugrov. The house where Lewis Carroll stayed and the house from the porch of which the Empress Catherine II was met. Repeatedly come across the name of M. Gorky. And you will admire the pearl of not only Nizhny Novgorod, but also the entire Volga region - the Christmas (Stroganov) Church and learn the history of this temple from the foundation to the present day. The end point will be the Annunciation Square with a beautiful view of the oldest monastery on the Nizhny Novgorod land and the Zarechny part of the city. And all this with my story and showing pictures of the nineteenth century.
