Heart of the Lower
Description:
Walking tour of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin and Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street. Duration of 2.5 hours. We will find ourselves in the heart of Nizhny Novgorod – a city with a rich 800-year history, which is inextricably linked with the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin.
You will hear about the legendary past of the city, about the sorcerer-visionary - Dyatl, who lived on the Dyatlovy Mountains - the place where the city now stands, learn about the Grand Duke of Vladimir Yuri Vsevolodovich and his associate and priest - Bishop Simon - the "founding fathers" of the Nizhny.
Get acquainted with the main creation of the Italian architect Pietro Francesco - the walls and towers of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, which is over 500 years old. I will talk about how the Kremlin was built up in the “golden age” of Catherine II, how it lived in the 19th and 20th centuries, and, of course, how it lives in the present time.
We will see the Mikhail-Arkhangelsk Cathedral, which houses the tomb of the “Savior of the Fatherland”, a national hero – Kuzma Minin, one of the main organizers of the people’s militia in 1612, who slept Russia from foreign invaders.
Our journey will end with an 8-century walk along the main “noble and merchant” street of Nizhny – Bolshaya Pokrovskaya, where we will get acquainted with the preserved monuments of architecture, and I will gladly tell stories related to them, with their owners and famous people who visited our city.
